On 19 February 2010 the Government announced that a new household Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme will assist households to save money on power bills and reduce their carbon emissions.
This new Scheme will replace the Home Insulation Program and the Solar Hot Water Rebate Program both of which are discontinued as of close of business 19 February 2010.
From 20 February 2010, the rebate on solar hot water systems is reduced from $1,600 to $1,000 and the rebate on heat pump systems is reduced from $1,000 to $600.
Transitional Arrangements until 19 March 2010
Transitional arrangements have been put in place for people who paid for or ordered their hot water systems prior to 20 February 2010.
Eligible solar or heat pump hot water systems purchased or installed prior to 20 February 2010 may be eligible for a $1,600 rebate for solar hot water or $1,000 for heat pumps, if proof of purchase or installation prior to 20 February 2010 is included with the application.
Applicants who ordered or made partial payment for their solar or heat pump hot water systems but had not had their system installed prior to 20 February 2010, must include written evidence of their order with their rebate application. A receipt for a deposit or a copy of their suppliers order form is required. A quote is not sufficient evidence of an order.
In all cases final decisions regarding rebate eligibility will be made by the Government.
Arrangements after 20 March 2010
IMPORTANT: All applications received from 20 March 2010 will be assessed for $1,000 for solar hot water and $600 for heat pump hot water systems, regardless of installation date.
Interim program guidelines and application forms for the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme and the previous Solar Hot Water Rebate will be available shortly.

Claiming rebates can be confusing so Climax provide all the paperwork for the rebate claims and we offer the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as a discount on your purchase and installation cost, saving you money right from the start and making the process easy.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
One of the most common questions we face when it comes to Solar Water Heaters is;
WHAT ARE RECs?
We've tried to keep it simple for you and offer we offer the RECS as a discount at the time of purchase and instalaltion;
Eco friendly products have a number of RECs assigned to them according to how environmentally friendly they are the better for the environment the higher the number of RECs.
RECS are separate to Rebates and are monitored by the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator. The Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) is a statutory authority established to oversee the implementation of the Australian Government's renewable energy target.
The total value of RECs are different for each solar hot water system as the effiency of the system determins how many certificates are allocated. You will generally find the value to be around $900 per system, some a little higher and some a little lower.
RECs are used as an electronic form of currency, created by the government to help reduce Australias energy consumption in the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET). 1 REC is equal to 1 MegaWatt hour created by a renewable source. The monetary value of a REC is based on market demands and can change regularly, the value included in Climax quotes are a guide only and subject to change pending market demand.
As the Solar Hot Water purchaser you can choose to take a discount at the point of sale for the value of the RECs by signing them over Climax, alternatively you can hold onto the RECS and sell them at a later date to a business that may need them to off-set their environmental impact. Should you choose to hold onto your RECS, you must register with ORER so you can trade your RECS.
